Early 1960s Danish Teak & Leather Armchair
A beautifully sculpted Danish armchair from the early 1960s, Attributed to N.A. Jørgensen, the noted Odense workshop later known as Bramin Møbler. Designed in the spirit of Danish modernism and attributed to N.A. Jørgensen, reflecting the sculptural teak craftsmanship associated with the Bramming workshops of the 1960s. The design reflects the organic modernism explored by Arne Hovmand-Olsen, Hans Olsen and Carl Edward Matthes, whose work for Jørgensen combined soft, enveloping upholstery with sharply profiled teak frames.
The frame is executed in solid Burmese teak with fluid, tapering lines and gently splayed legs that create a light and graceful silhouette — refined, architectural elements characteristic of the period’s most notable cabinetmakers. The seat and back in deep-brown leather upholstery, shaped in a soft organic curve that meets the arms with a subtle wing-like gesture. The chair’s balance of sculptural form and ergonomic ease makes it a standout example of mid-century Danish design.
A collectible and versatile piece, equally at home in a reading nook, study, or in a curated interior.

Maker/Designer Context
N.A. Jørgensen Møbelfabrik, later reorganised as Bramin Møbler, was one of Denmark’s highly respected mid-century manufacturers, known for producing thoughtfully crafted furniture across the 1950s–70s.
The workshop collaborated with designers including:
Hans Olsen — known for sculptural, organic forms and innovative use of upholstered shells.
Carl Edward Matthes — whose work explored ergonomic shaping, structured upholstery, and expressive arm/leg profiles.
This chair exhibits key features seen in their designs: a softly curved, fully upholstered back, a saddle-like seat, and angular teak frames with distinctive sculpted arms.
Several sources attribute the design to Arne Hovmand-Olsen. However, we have not been able to find 100% proof of this, so we have chosen to sell it as unknown and have set the price accordingly.
We try to capture the condition of our items in our photographs as best as possible. Prior to dispatch all items are carefully cleaned and re-coated with danish oil to ensure your item is looking its best when delivered.
