Danish Modern Teak Highboard, Denmark, c. 1960s
A Sculptural Danish High Sideboard — Exceptional Interior Detail, Warm Teak Throughout
A well-resolved and generously proportioned Danish modern highboard from the 1960s — a piece that rewards close attention. The exterior is clean and confident: warm teak throughout, four tapering cylindrical legs, and a composition that balances open and closed sections with the considered rhythm characteristic of the best Scandinavian storage design of the period.
The interior is where this piece becomes special. The fall-front secretary to the left drops on original brass stays to reveal a full working surface, behind which sit two open shelves and a bank of elegantly tiered document trays — each front wave-formed and lined in green baize. To the right, the double-door cabinet opens to reveal the standout interior feature: a diamond-etched mirrored back panel that catches and multiplies light in a way that is quietly theatrical. Below, three wave-pull drawers run the full width above a trio of sliding doors — each fitted with the characteristic recessed round pull — opening to generous lower storage.
The original lock and key are present and functional. The piece sits on its original tapered legs and presents with the warm, even teak tone that comes from careful restoration.
An exceptionally versatile piece — as comfortable as a home office secretary as it is a display cabinet or drinks storage in a considered living space.

Like many well-made mid-century pieces, this one combines solid wood with a quality veneer — a considered choice of the era, used to showcase the finest grain while ensuring the piece moves and settles as the timber intends.
