Some objects are universally recognized as iconic. One such object is the Costes easy chair, which in 1984 marked the beginning of Philippe Starck's collaboration with Driade, heralding the designer's emergence in Italy, a country previously unfamiliar with his work. Originally designed for the homonymous, now disappeared Café Costes in Paris, owes its timeless success to the absoluteness of forms: a dark wooden embracing structure with three highly tilted legs.

The renowned Costes chair, designed by Philippe Starck for Café Costes in Paris in 1984, reimagines the concept of an armchair within the footprint of a regular chair. This design, featuring only three legs, was intended to facilitate waitstaff movement around the table, reducing the likelihood of tripping on the legs.

The structure of the Costes Armchair combines a black painted steel pipe frame with a backrest of bent plywood, finished with a veneer. The seat cushion, covered in black leather.
