Danish Modern Side Chair by Bramin Møbler, Denmark, c.1960s
A sculptural Danish modern dining chair produced by Bramin Møbler, Denmark, in the 1960s, attributed to the Danish architect and designer Kurt Østervig.
The design is defined by its elegantly curved solid wood backrest, gently sculpted for comfort while maintaining a sense of architectural restraint. The rear legs rise in a seamless taper to meet the backrest, forming a refined silhouette characteristic of Østervig’s disciplined yet organic approach to form. Angular rear supports intersect beneath the backrest in a striking V-formation, creating both structural integrity and a distinctive visual rhythm.
Tapered legs and slender seat rails contribute to the chair’s light, balanced proportions, while the gently curved rails beneath the seat create a subtle floating effect.
The proportions are balanced and understated, allowing the craftsmanship to speak quietly but confidently.
A timeless example of Danish modern design — refined, restrained, and enduring.

Bramin Møbler — Denmark
Bramin Møbler originated in the town of Bramming, a region recognised for its progressive and highly skilled furniture industry. The company was initially established as N.A. Jørgensens Møbelfabrik, later adopting the name Bramin Møbler in the late 1950s to reflect a more modern and internationally oriented identity.
From the 1950s through the 1970s, Bramin grew to become one of Denmark’s significant furniture manufacturers, producing a wide range of pieces for dining and living interiors, alongside a number of distinctive sideboards and storage designs. Like many leading Danish makers of the period, the company collaborated closely with some of the era’s most respected designers.
Among those associated with Bramin were Johannes Andersen, Hans Olsen, Kurt Østervig, and Frank Reenskaug, while one of the company’s most enduring partnerships was with Norwegian-born designer Henry W. Klein. Klein worked extensively with Bramin and relocated to Denmark with his family in 1960 to play a more active role in the company’s development and design direction.
Bramin remained successful into the early 1980s, when wider economic pressures and the international financial downturn affected much of the Danish furniture industry, ultimately leading to the company’s closure.
Today, Bramin furniture is increasingly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts. The brand is admired both for its occasionally bold and sculptural forms and for its embodiment of the restrained elegance and functional simplicity that define Danish modern design.
