Danish Modern Side Chair by Anderstrup Møbelfabrik, Denmark 1950s
An elegant Danish modern side chair attributed to Kai Kristiansen’s celebrated Model 68, designed in the late 1950s and produced by Anderstrup Møbelfabrik during the height of the Danish modern movement.
The design is distinguished by its light, sculptural silhouette and refined craftsmanship. The solid teak frame features a gently contoured backrest and graceful curved arms that flow into the rear legs, creating a sense of movement and visual lightness. Its relatively compact footprint allows the chair to remain comfortable while also being space-efficient — a hallmark of Kristiansen’s thoughtful and functional approach to furniture design.
The proportions are carefully balanced, giving the chair both presence and restraint. From every angle the design reveals subtle refinements, including softly tapered legs, precise joinery, and an open, airy structure that prevents visual heaviness. Owing to its sculptural form, the chair functions equally well as a practical seating piece and as a distinctive decorative element, adding architectural interest to an interior.
Construction and design characteristics are consistent with known Danish examples of the model.
The teak frame has been professionally restored and refinished, enhancing the warmth and depth of the natural grain.
A highly recognisable and enduring example of Danish modern furniture design, equally suited to dining, occasional seating, or as a sculptural accent chair.
