A commanding presence — this generously scaled European sideboard is crowned by a beautifully bookmatched walnut veneer top, the grain laid in near-perfect symmetry across its full 2.5-metre length. The quality of the wood is immediately apparent: rich, figured walnut with warm tonal variation that deepens towards the centre, and the same care extends to the side panels.
The layout is well considered: two pairs of lockable hinged doors, each concealing a bay with adjustable shelving, flank a central bank of four drawers. Every drawer is lined — the upper two in dark velvet/flock with fitted cutlery divisions, the lower two in green baize, while visible dovetail joints highlight the sideboard’s quality craftsmanship.
The distinctive shaped drawer pulls gives the centre of the facade a soft rhythm. Raised on elegantly splayed tapered legs, the piece retains excellent proportions despite its scale — substantial without being heavy.
No maker's mark, though the construction, detailing, and wood quality are consistent with quality European workshop production of the late 1950s to early 1960s.
