Pair of Sculpted-Arm Lounge Chairs, South African, c. 1960s

The armrests are the defining detail — solid mahogany, shaped in one continuous sweep that rises from the back upright, tapers through the elbow and meets the front leg in a clean splice. The rest of the chair is deliberately restrained to let them read: an open frame, slatted back rail, splayed tapering legs, and loose cushions sitting light within the timber. Scandinavian in influence, South African in make, and unusually resolved from the rear — a pair that can stand away from a wall.
