Iversen was trained as a cabinetmaker and began his career as a furniture designer in the 1940s. He was heavily influenced by the work of the architect and designer Kaare Klint, and like him, Iversen's designs were often based on ergonomic principles and human anatomy. He was also influenced by the work of other Danish modernists such as Hans Wegner and Børge Mogensen.
