Mid-Century Duros (SA) Sapele and Mahogany sideboard.

R15 980,00Price
  • An elegant and beautifully designed Mid-century sideboard by Duros, during the mid-20th century.

It features three drawers on the right side, with the uppermost drawer still equipped with its original flatware dividers. At its center, double doors, and to the left, a drinking cabinet, both reveal ample storage areas, each complemented by a shelf. Very well constructed.

The linear design has a distinct European feel, from the streamlined lipped handles, sleek lines to the elegantly sculpted legs. A great example of style and minimalism.

    Dimensions: w204.5 x d46 x 85.5 cm

Very good vintage condition. There are some minor signs of wear, conducive to age and use - please see photos for detail. It has been lovingly and delicately refurbished and refinished.

Duros, established in 1904 represented Danish modern style in South Africa. The name Duros was a composite of the Latvian emigrant family name OSpovat and "DURablity".

The Duros furniture company opened it’s doors in Chapel Street, Woodstock in 1903, moved to Roeland Street in the 1930’s and remained there until it’s demise in the 1980’s. It had an impressive range of furniture

Duros founder Hyman Ospovat gave the company a slogan taken from John Keats: “A thing of beauty is a joy for ever”. Looking at how timeless his furniture pieces are, it’s rather accurate.

Like many Mid-Century pieces, it harmoniously combines sturdy solid wood with a top-grade wood veneer.
