R10,400.00Price
  • A beautifully balanced mid-century Danish teak side table, confidently attributed to designer Søren Rasmussen and made by Ærø Møbelfabrik., c.1950s.

The piece showcases Rasmussen’s signature architectural lightness—most notably the distinctive A-frame compass leg structure, elegantly expressed in solid teak, and the finely woven rattan lower shelf that adds both warmth and visual transparency.

The raised gallery edge frames the top in a refined, sculptural line, while the single drawer, finished with a subtle carved pull, introduces a gentle organic detail characteristic of Rasmussen’s cabinetmaking vocabulary. The proportions are concise and functional, making it equally suitable as a bedside table, hallway accent, or living-room side table.

A timeless example of Danish modern craftsmanship, combining clarity of form, practical storage, and Rasmussen’s unmistakable sense of poise.

Designer Profile: Søren Rasmussen (Denmark, 20th Century)

Søren Rasmussen was a Danish furniture designer and cabinetmaker active during the golden era of mid-century modernism. While less widely known than the major names of the period, Rasmussen produced a body of work distinguished by its architectural clarity, fine joinery, and restrained Scandinavian minimalism.

Working predominantly in solid teak, Rasmussen favoured light, elevated structures. His pieces were typically produced in small workshop settings rather than mass-manufactured lines, which explains the frequent absence of maker’s marks. Despite this, his work remains recognisable through its proportions, craftsmanship, and consistent design language.

Today, Rasmussen’s furniture is appreciated by collectors for its quiet elegance, craftsmanship, and honest materiality — hallmarks of the Danish modern tradition.

As with many quality Mid-Century pieces, this design thoughtfully pairs solid wood construction with a premium wood veneer—an approach widely used at the time to highlight beautiful grain patterns while ensuring lasting stability.
