Vintage Astro Coffee Table
Presenting an exceptional circular coffee table, a true masterpiece of mid-century design, crafted from solid Imbuia wood in the style the iconic 'Astro' coffee table, a hallmark creation by the renowned furniture manufacturer G-Plan. Inspired by the work of Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, the table showcases a distinctive sculptural base that gracefully supports a round top, complemented by a glass insert.
Judging by the impeccable craftsmanship, this piece was most likely manufactured by one of South Africa’s most sought-after mid-century makers, EE Meyer.
Featuring gracefully curved legs and a rounded top, this table embodies high-quality craftsmanship characteristic of the 60s and 70s. Its elegance is enhanced by a glass insert, elevating its aesthetic appeal. This table represents an iconic piece of mid-century furniture, and finding well-preserved examples of this style is increasingly challenging.
Condition: We have gently refurbished and refinished the wood to ensure it is in very good vintage condition. The glass top shows light surface scratches consistent with age and use. These do not detract from the overall appearance and are commensurate with the piece’s age.
