Mid-Century Artecasa Solid Kiaat Sideboard, South Africa, circa 1960
Vintage Artecasa Solid Kiaat Sideboard, South Africa, circa 1960
A striking example of South African mid-century craftsmanship, this solid kiaat sideboard by Artecasa captures the refined geometry and enduring material integrity that defined the brand’s furniture of the 1960s.
Executed in richly grained solid kiaat, this minimalist, solid kiaat sideboard from Artecasa, circa 1960, showcases exceptional craftsmanship and timeless design. The rectangular top sits above a pair of cabinet doors on the left, enclosing a detachable shelf. On the right, three graduating drawers offer ample storage, with the top two drawers featuring three-division green felt-lined interiors for cutlery. The sideboard is accented with incised handles and rests on four rounded rectangular legs. The expressive grain lends a sculptural quality to its otherwise restrained modernist silhouette.
The sideboard reflects Artecasa’s distinctive approach — merging Scandinavian-inspired proportions with robust South African hardwoods. The design achieves both warmth and architectural clarity, emblematic of the country’s mid-century design movement and increasingly sought after among collectors today.
It bears the maker's stamp, "Artecasa Pty Ltd," attesting to its authenticity and quality.
