  • This exquisite set of collectable vintage Danish solid teak frame dining chairs features ergonomically designed curved back and beautiful paper cord seats. A very elegant and sober design, by renowned designer Arne Hovmand-Olsen for J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik, Denmark 1960

An exceptionally stylish and iconic set,  originally designed in 1951.

The combination of the cord and rich teak renders these chairs not only visually delightful but also superbly comfortable to sit on. An extremely graceful and comfortable design. A wonderful example of Arne Hovmand Olsen’s trademark attention to detail, the flowing backs and gracefully tapered, angled legs seamlessly integrate into a harmonious whole.

It’s easy to see why J.L. Møller is regarded as one of Denmark’s finest chairmakers. Each piece showcases joinery so precise and structurally sound that the usual cross-stretchers are unnecessary. This absence lends the chairs a rare, beautifully refined silhouette that few makers have ever matched.

Arne Hovmand-Olsen (1919–1989) was a Danish designer celebrated for his elegant, elongated forms and finely balanced proportions. Trained as a cabinetmaker, he developed a design language rooted in craftsmanship — slender frames, sculpted arm profiles, and an emphasis on ergonomic comfort.

Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Hovmand-Olsen designed for leading Danish manufacturers, producing dining chairs, armchairs, and side tables that remain highly sought after for their refined simplicity and unmistakably Scandinavian character. His work captures the mid-century ideal of lightness and functional beauty, making his pieces enduring favourites among collectors and interior designers alike.
