An exquisitely designed extra large round mid-century Imbuia coffee table, a timeless creation by EE Meyer for Binnehuis (SA)
It is one of the standout furniture designs from South Africa's modernist era.
Dimensions: Diameter 106 cm x Height 41cm
Condition: Very good vintage condition with discreet traces of time. We have carefully restored and refinished this piece to preserve the heritage. A small rim chip has been professionally repaired and colour-matched to the surrounding wood, now discreet and barely noticeable within the active grain.
As with all authentic mid-century pieces, gentle signs of age remain and are considered part of their character.

Meyer was the South African master of understated midcentury elegance, defined by sober and clean designs. The majority of Meyer's furniture was made in beautiful hardwood imbuia.
The Binnehuis furniture stores were located in Cape Town, Stellenbosch Somerset-West, Newlands, Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg and were owned by a Dutch businessman and his wife, Mr and Mrs van Ewijck, who moved between South Africa and the Netherlands. It seems they were most prolific during the 1960s
Imbuia is not listed in the CITES Appendices, but is classified as “Vulnerable” on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
As with many quality Mid-Century pieces, this design thoughtfully pairs solid wood construction with a premium wood veneer—an approach widely used at the time to highlight beautiful grain patterns while ensuring lasting stability.
