Extending Teak Dining Suite in the Manner of Niels O. Møller — H.G. Bradley, Harare, 1970s
Møller’s Finest Dining Designs, Made by Hand in Harare
A beautifully resolved dining suite after three of Niels O. Møller’s most celebrated designs: the Model 79 side chair, the Model 64 carver and the Model 15 extending table. It was made in Harare in the 1970s by cabinetmaker H.G. Bradley and has a clear, personal provenance.
Møller’s chairs are prized for their jeweller-like precision, and Bradley understood why. The solid teak frames are slender and sculpted: open backs shaped between a softly curved crest rail and lower rail, joints that flow seamlessly from one member into the next, and legs that taper to a fine point. The table is the quiet partner. Its top is framed in a band of solid teak, and it stands on gently tapered legs notched cleanly into the apron.
Closed, it is an intimate round for four to six. With both leaves in place, it seats up to ten, a rare flexibility in a suite of this refinement.
The suite was bought directly from Bradley by Clive and Barbara King, who knew him personally and chose each piece themselves. It has remained in their care ever since.
All Vintage Club pieces are carefully considered for authenticity, provenance and condition before acquisition. Restoration is undertaken in-house to the highest standard.
Provenance:
Acquired directly from the original owners, Clive and Barbara King, who purchased these pieces from H.G. Bradley in Harare — then Salisbury, Rhodesia — in the 1970s. They knew Mr Bradley well and admired his style and his dedication to perfection.
Bradley's workshop produced high-quality interpretations of Danish Modern designs, deliberately unlabelled so as not to be mistaken for the Danish originals. These pieces carry no manufacturer's labels, and their identification rests on the original owners' first-hand recollection rather than surviving documentation.
