Stonehill Furniture
London; Cabinetmakers (fl.1910-80)
Austrian-born furniture maker Nathan Steinberg arrived in London in 1895 at the age of 13. He worked as an apprentice cabinet maker and in 1910, he established his own business producing bedroom furniture. Following WWII, the company became known as Stonehill Furniture, with its main factory located in Edmonton, North London. Stonehill is best remembered for its popular teak sideboards and teak and glass coffee tables, likely influenced by Victor Wilkins' designs for G Plan. Nathan’s sons, Philip and Maurice Steinberg, managed the company until their retirement in the 1980s.
