(A work in progress...)
Arne Hovmand-Olsen, Denmark
Arne Hovmand-Olsen had the world in mind, both before and after the 1950s, when he became one of Denmark’s renowned furniture designers.
Arne Hovmand-Olsen (1919–1989) was a Danish designer celebrated for his elegant, elongated forms and finely balanced proportions. Trained as a cabinetmaker, he developed a design language rooted in craftsmanship — slender frames, sculpted arm profiles, and an emphasis on ergonomic comfort.
Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Hovmand-Olsen designed for leading Danish manufacturers, producing dining chairs, armchairs, and side tables that remain highly sought after for their refined simplicity and unmistakably Scandinavian character. His work captures the mid-century ideal of lightness and functional beauty, making his pieces enduring favourites among collectors and interior designers alike.
