Folke Pålsson, Denmark
Folke Pålsson is a Danish designer who worked at the FDB furniture design studio in the 1960s. His J77 chair is recognisable design classic all across Scandinavia for its lightweight, comfortable, well-formed design.
The FDB furniture department played a vital part in revolutionising the industry in Denmark, it was founded in 1933 and in 1942 Børge Mogensen was installed as design director. His pioneering approach was distinguished by a desire to create minimal, sleek and functional design intended for mass consumption. The Danish Folke Pålsson was a part of the FDB design collective. FDB was founded after Second World War and their aim was to make affordable furniture for everyday use following the model the German Bauhaus. Pålsson is especially known for the J77-chair, which Hay started reproducing in 2011.
