1929 - Present
Kai Kristiansen is celebrated as one of the most innovative and talented Danish designers of the mid-20th century.
Born in 1929, Kristiansen trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts under the mentorship of the famed Kaare Klint, widely regarded as the father of modern Danish furniture design. After excelling as a cabinetmaker, Kristiansen established his own design workshop in 1955. His exceptional talent quickly gained recognition from Denmark's finest cabinetmakers, resulting in some of the most remarkable furniture produced during the mid-century era.
A multi-faceted designer, Kristiansen created a wide range of furniture, all characterized by clean lines and an impeccable balance of form and function. His designs included some of the most sought-after lounge, dining, and office furniture of the time, crafted in luxurious teak and rosewood. Beyond his work as a designer, Kristiansen also organised many of the large furniture fairs in Denmark during the 1960s.
Today Kai Kristiansen's designs are some of the most highly coveted examples of the mid-century furniture to emerge from Denmark.
