Danish Teak Rocking Chair, Model 182 — Frank Reenskaug for Bramin Møbler, 1960s
Available singly — in mustard or powder-blue — or as a pair.
One of the most recognisable rocking chairs of the Danish modern era, the Model 182 was designed by Frank Reenskaug for Bramin Møbelfabrik in 1958. The solid teak frame is a study in considered engineering — raked uprights, slender spindles across an open back, and the signature X-frame that draws arm, backrest and runner into a single flowing line. Visually light yet structurally sound, it carries the quiet confidence of the best Scandinavian design, with every element earning its place — an increasingly difficult piece to find in this fully restored condition.
Authenticity: As is common with Bramin, the original paper label — always a lightly applied sticker — is no longer present. The attribution is confirmed against well-documented examples: the execution of the X-frame and rounded leg joints, the placement of the fixings and the Allen-head screws, and the quality of the teak all read true to the Danish original, and stand clearly apart from later local interpretations of the form.

Condition Very good restored vintage condition. The teak frame has been cleaned, restored and sealed, and the webbing renewed for a firm, supportive seat. Honest, age-appropriate wear consistent with sixty years of use. The powder-blue chair is original throughout its stretchers and runners; the mustard chair carries sympathetic earlier repairs to the lower stretchers and rocker runners, which only add to its stability. Both rock smoothly and are ready for everyday use. New seat and back cushions have been made to the original half-moon design and upholstered in FibreGuard stain-resistant fabric from Home Fabrics, in your choice of mustard or powder-blue.
As with all authentic mid-century pieces, gentle signs of age remain and are considered part of their character.
